The outlets will sell branded items as feedback shows people are more interested in buying them
TEMERLOH: Four types of basic necessities are among 50 items sold cheaply at Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia (KR1M) 2.0 shops.
These goods are sugar sold at RM2.85 per kg compared with RM2.95 in normal shops, flour at RM1.30 compared with RM1.35, Bunga Raya-brand rice at RM24.90 for a 10kg bag compared with RM26, and subsidised cooking oil at RM2.50 per kg.
Other branded daily necessities, such as the 1kg Milo and disposable diapers are also sold at a lower price compared with the market price.
“Go to the shops which have become partners of KR1M 2.0 and they will give profits not only to the buyers but also shop operators,” Prime Minister Najib Razak said after officially launching KR1M2.0 at Pasaraya TMG here today.
He said KR1M would be implemented at shops which have become partners with the domestic, trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry, through the Tunas Manja Group.
“We have also decided not to sell goods that are not branded because we found from our feedback that the people are more interested in branded items.”
More than 6,000 residents from the surrounding areas flocked to the supermarket to get their daily necessities sold at a special introductory price.
Najib said KR1M 2.0 hoped to open 300 outlets by the end of the year within the TMG network chain as well as the KK Mart, which became the strategic partners of Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNS), the main operator of KR1M 2.0.
