TEMERLOH, Feb 4 — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry targets to sell more than 100 products of various brands at lower prices than the market price at the 1Malaysia People’s Shop 2.0 (KR1M 2.0) outlets in future.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said at present, only 50 products including four controlled items, namely sugar, rice, wheat flour and cooking oil as well as other daily necessities were sold at KR1M 2.0.
“The number (of items sold at cheaper prices) will be increased from time to time and we are targeting more than 100 items to be sold at lower prices than other shops at the KR1M 2.0 retail chain.
“The important thing is that the product are all branded items not goods that are repacked and rebranded as KR1M,” he told reporters after the launch of KR1M 2.0 at TMG Supermarket by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here today.
Also present at the launch were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and state Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin.
Hamzah said his ministry also planned to add another strategic partner for Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNS) as the main operator of the KR1M 2.0.
“So far, we have appointed two retail companies namely Tunas Manja Group (TMG) and KK Mart as strategic partners of PNS and five retail companies have sent application to become a strategic partner.
“We will choose one more company based on several criteria including having a good management team. All of the companies will also work with grocery shops in rural areas by channelling their goods at cheaper prices,” he said.
The KR1M 2.0 initiative will focus on three business model categories namely, strategic cooperation between the government, manufacturer and distributor; owner-operated business and co-branding. — Bernama
